Spring, ah the warm weather, rain, and flowers. What more could you ask for. It's the season for everything. Sports are thriving at this time and not to mention the best sport of all, soccer!! Spring also means graduation which for some people is exciting and for others it might be kind of scary. Either way spring is the best season of all.
The weather this time year is awesome. I love the nice warm days. They're not too hot and not too cold, they're just right. Rainstorms are probably one of the coolest things to watch. It can go from sunny and sixty one minute and forty-five and cloudy and windy the next. I love to follow storms. Last summer when I was at my grandma's house for a birthday party, a bug storm hit Adel and there was a funnel cloud forming over us. Her neighbor came over to tell us to go the basement, she lives in a duplex, and instead a couple of my cousins and I head outside. It was raining cats and dogs, and not to mention all of the stuff flying around us, twigs, leaves, garbage, and some other small things. We just stood out there until it cleared, this storm was strong enough to put a tree into my neighbors house. Hopefully this year there will be some exciting activity.
Spring has the best sports. Track, softball, baseball, and of course SOCCER!!!!! Soccer is by far the best sport ever. It also happens to fall in my favorite season of all, spring. This year is going to be a good year. We have played three games so far and won all of them. We have two more games coming up this week, Nodaway Valley and Norwalk. Two games that will test our abilities but two games that we can win. We are trying very hard this year to make to State. Our biggest competition this year just like every year so far is DCG. They better be ready for us, cause we're coming for them.
Spring also means graduation. Most people are ready to get out, some others are ready but not quite sure what they're going to do yet. For me, I'm ready to get out. I'm ready to meet new people and get started on the rest of my life, of course it's going to be a little scary at first, but it will get easier.
I don't know how anyone could hate spring, it's just a wonderful season. The flowers are blooming, the trees are coming alive again. The birds are making there return from the south. I love waking up to the birds chirping. Everything is just so lively during this season, it's just setting us up for the summer months ahead. Spring, undeniably the best season.

Lumberton
Most people go on vacation during spring break, whether it's to somewhere warm, close, faraway, or to go see family. Well i went to go see family and it was faraway. I have relatives that live down in Lumberton, Mississippi, they live on a farm. We usually go down every year during spring break, we have been going for about ten years now.
This year my brother and I got to bring friends so I brought Robby and my brother brought his friend Kyle. The trip down was okay everyone slept while kyle and I listened to our ipods. We stopped at a hotel where we swam for a good two hours, until eleven at night. The next day we headed out with my grandparents and cousins, who were already at the hotel when we got there. About five o'clock that night we got to our destination, Lumberton, Mississippi.
My aunt and uncle have owned this farm for about fifteen years now and they have had a variation of animals from llamas, to peacocks, to just your ordinary farm animals. They have a beautiful house, though don't judge it from the outside. Inside is a very nice modern farm house. Included with the farm is a pond that is usually stacked with fish but with the frequent floods most of them went over the spillway.
We went to the Gulf one day, it's about an hour away from their house. The water was pretty warm and it was low tide so you would think that there would be a lot of shells, but there wasn't. We walked up and down the beach for a while then my brother and his friend thought that it would be fun to feed the seagulls. That was a blast. There were about twenty seagulls, we fed them cheese its. After that we went to eat at a crappy restaurant. When we got done we went to some of Kyle's friends house that he has in Gulf Port. When we were done there we went back to a fulfilling dinner.
The next day, St. Patrick's Day, we went to New Orleans. We walked around for most of the day and went to the French Quarter. There were some really odd people there. We went to eat at the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch. After that we went to go get gifts. On our way to the car we got stopped by some people, who were defiantly high on something, they asked us for fifty cents for a hotel room. They were really crazy and called us some bad names but we made it home.
On our last day we just hung out at their house. Robby, My mom, and I went to Dirt Cheap, it's a place where they get name brand things that might have been in a store that had a fire or flood and they sell them really cheap. When we got back they had made a house out of wood for us to burn later that night. We went fishing for the rest of the day. Between Robby and I we caught six fish, I caught five of them. That night we burned the fire and sat around and talked. My brother and Kyle slept out by the fire that night. The next morning we got up and had breakfast and got all of our things together and said goodbye to everyone and headed home.

Cancer
Most people know someone who has been affected by cancer. I know I have. There are a kinds of cancer also ranging in severity. Some are treatable some are not. People get cancer get rid of it then it never comes back but for others it might come back again and maybe three times. The thing a bout cancer it that it can affect anybody, from a perfectly healthy five year old to a sickly fifty-five year old. You never know when it will happen. It could happen as you're sitting at home or when you're on vacation and unfortunately it happened to us on the way back from Vegas.
My grandpa got colon cancer just a few years ago which raised concerns for the rest of the family. When you find out that someone in your family has cancer it is very hard to believe. After you have time to think about it then you have to start planning for what is going to happen in just some short years down the road. Since my grandpa got it at around sixty-five has kids would have to start getting check for it around the age of fifty-five. Usually you get check ten years before your parents or other relatives got it. Well for us it came ten years earlier than expected.
I have previously posted my vacation to Las Vegas, the thing I didn't tell you is that by the end of that trip we had spent a good ten to fifteen hours in a hospital. The day before we left my dad was having some trouble "going". We didn't think much of it because we had eaten some food that we weren't really used to. So then the next day we set out for home. Along the way we were having to stop about every ten minutes so that my dad could try to use the restroom. When the pain became too unbearable we stopped at the Denver hospital. We ended staying there for about ten hours, it helped that there was a Harry Potter marathon going on out in the lobby. They ended up releasing him and told us that it was a bad infection and if the pain doesn't go away by the time we got home he would have to go back to the doctor. This is day two of not "going".
We stayed at a hotel near the hospital that night just in case. He got sick that night, let me tell you he never gets sick. We finally went to bed and got up early the next morning to head home. On the way there we would stop every ten to fifteen minutes to see if anything had changed but the pain just kept getting worse and worse. We finally made it home after fly 90 miles down the road. We spend the rest of the day trying to make my dad comfortable. The next day my mom and dad go to the doctor and about twenty minutes later after explaining over and over again that he hadn't "gone" in four days, they sent him to the hospital. Later that day my brother and I go down there to see him, he seems pretty comfortable but still in pain. HE gets moved to a different room snd shortly after my grandma takes my brother and I home because I have soccer that night.
Just as we start to scrimmage my grandma comes back to pick me up to go see my dad, they had decided to go ahead and do surgery. We get there just in time to see him before he went into surgery. We waited out in the lobby for about two and half hours. Finally the doctor comes out to tell us the news. What we had thought was just bad infection or a blocked intestine turned into colon cancer that had spread to his lymph nodes. We all just sat there for a minute to take it all in. My mom was the first to cry.
When my dad got out of recovery we went up and saw him, my mom was the one to tell him. He was shocked but too tired to think of it at the time. They ended up cutting out a foot of his colon and he had to have a colosomy for six months along with chemo and radiation and a reversal surgery. He took the chemo and radiation really well. He only got sick a couple of times. Finally last week on tuesday he had his surgery.
The surgery went well thought it almost didn't happen. His colon was a little shorter than expected so they had to pull and tug and move some things around to get it fixed but they got it done. He is in more pain then last time and it seems like it will last longer too. The doctors did say that since the colon was so short that he might have future problems. For now he is happy to be home where he has more places to sit and more things to do.
If you have any history of cancer in your family, doesn't matter what kind it is, get checked for it about ten years before that family member had it. If you have any unusual pains get them checked out because the littlest thing out of place could mean something a whole lot bigger, better to catch it sooner than later.

Viva Las Vegas
When you think of Vegas you think of gambling, quick marriages, bright lights, people performing on the streets. It's the ideal place for people 21 or over, but not for kids. When you you go there as an adult there are plenty of things to do but as a kid there's limited activities. I went here over the summer and I'll tell that it's not the most exciting place to go.
My dad thought that it would be a great idea to take us to Vegas for a summer vacation. At first I was really excited to be able to go there as a teen, that feeling quickly left as we rolled into the three hour traffic. The hotel that we stayed at was The Flamingo. It was pretty much smack dab in the middle of the new strip.
The first day we were there we walked up and down the strip. Let me tell you there are some very interesting people down there. Everywhere you look there are people trying to hand you cards with pretty/naked women on them trying to get you to come to their strip clubs, most people ignore them and others that don't know what they are take them but then realise what they are and discard them onto the street. We did end up finding a young boy performing for people, he was covered in all gold paint and was acting like a statue and would move like he was a robot, he was really good. Up and down the strip you can find all sorts of street venders. One that really interested me was the guys that painted with spray paint, we ended up buying a few of them because they were so cool.
We ended up going to the army base that is there in Vegas, my dad is in the Air Force. This is one of the bases that people live at, there are homes and stores and fast food restraunts, pretty much anything that you want you can get on this base. On these bases the prices are lower than in other stores outside the base, so name brand clothes are about 50-80 percent cheaper than what they usually are. We went and looked at the houses that peolpe live in and where my dad stayed when he was down here. My dad said that there is a school on that base but we never did find it. We got to go see where they keep the planes and where they go to put the bombs on them, though we couldn't get too close for obvious reasons.
There were a couple of exhibits that we went and looked at. A couple of them were zoos, one of them you could be a dolphin trainer for a day which would be cool if you didn't have to pay 500 dollars to do it. The other one that my mom and I went to was the Human Body one, never again will I do that. It was quite nasty. They were real human bodies most of them with no skin. Someone had asked where they get all of these bodies becuase there were a lot of them. The lady told us that most of thm are donated from Asia because there if noone claims your body within a certain amount of time, which usually means a week or less, then they donate them to science. I had thought about donating my body to science after I die because with these bodies they can learn so much and maybe even cure things but after I saw this I decided to change my mind.
Other than those we spent most of our time in our hotel room, which wasn't too bad since they had a tv in the bathroom mirror. I would sit in the bathtub with a blanket and a pillow and just watch tv. We also went swimming a coulpe of times. There was this pearl place in the hotel where you could go and pick out your own oyster where there is a pearl inside and then you canpick out a ring or a necklace to put it on.
We didn't go to any shows, the closes things to one was the water show at the Bellagio, which was really cool. Ohter than that there wasn't really anything else we did. I know that it sounds like we did a lot but I wouldn't want to go back unless I was older.

Idaho
In this post I will talk about the trip that I took this summer to Idaho. It was a backpacking trip through the Selway Bitterroot Mountains. Each year the Dallas County Conservation, headed by Chris Adkins and Laura Zaugg, choose twelve people to go on this trek. This is an amazing place and I recomend everyone to go on the trip, it's a once in a lifetime experience.
To go on this trip you must be chosen. You have to fill out an application form and have someone write you a letter of recomandation. It takes about a month for them to get back to you, I had to call them, then they will tell you whether or not you made it. If you make it then you have to go a meeting where they will tell you when we will meet to get our packs and everything else, they also get a sheet of what you are going to want/need to get for the trek. Sometime in late June or early July we all meet to get our packs and start our team building excercises. I don't want to give too much away but I can tell you that this meeting is very fun, you get to meet all the people that are going to be going on the trek with you. At this time you should ask all of the questions that you have, because by the time you ask it might be too late.
The weeks to come after that and before the trek takes place, make sure you walk a couple of miles each week to brake in your shoes and to get used to carrying such a heavy pack, trust me I didn't do that and ended up walking out of the mountains in sandals. When the day finally arrives you're pretty stoked, you're going off into the wilderness with a bunch of people that you barely know and two of the coolest adults that are pretty much kids themselves. On the way up to Idaho is a two day trip in a fifteen passanger van with about twelve hours in there each day. Day one is is probably the worst becuase you still don't know everybody and nobody really wants to talk, but it gets better as the day goes on as we all start to get bored. This means Egyptian time, it's a eally fun card game that we played for about five hours straight. The nights on the road we sleep in cabins, girls in one room boys in the other, we don't get much sleep. After days of traveling we finally arive at the hot springs in Idaho.
The hot srings are really fun, especially the nude guy walking down the trial informing us about the moose up ahead, I am totally kidding about the fun nude guy because that wasn't very fun at all it was actually really gross. We did end uo seeing that moose, which was really cool because most years the coolest thing that they see are deer so to see a moose was absolutely amazing. The hot springs are really nice. It's fun to be sitting in hot water one minute and swimming in the freezing creek the next. This is when we met Connie, she knows more than you will ever know so respect her, she is also the coolest person you might ever meet. We spent a whole afternoon there, it wass great.
The next two nights we slept outside on a helicopter pad. Then after those two nights we set out on our journey. Ths part is alway exciting because you have no idea what is up ahead. Once you start though you find out that this place is amazing. The smell in the mountains is so pure and then the veiws are just magnificent. You would be surprised to find that it actually gets really hot up there even when you're in the trees. We did a lot of clearing on our way to our camp. That year there were a lot of trees that had been uprooted and that had just fallen down. We also replanted a lot of trees into an area that some other hickers had kept their horses. We stayed in two camp sites. The first on had a huge waterfall that we jumped off of, again the water up there was really really cold but we did it anyway. That site was very beautiful but it wasn't our final destination. Our second camp site had an even beter veiw of everything. This one was very buggy though. If you don't like to be bitten by bugs then i suggest bringing a lot of bug spray, I think we had run out by the end of the trek. This is one trip that you will remember for a lifetime.
If you are interested in this then come to the meeting that will be held sometime in Feburary, just check the announcements. Talk to anyone that went on this trip and they will pretty much tell you the same thing, one of the best trips I have ever gone on. Remember it's not what you take in with you, it's what you take out.

Chicago
The Windy City, I'm guessing everyone knows what city I'm talking about. If you don't, I'm talking about Chicago. In my blogs I will be telling you about some of the places that I've gone and some places that I wish to travel to.
The first place that I'm going to write about is my favorite city Chicago. The first time that I went there was my freshman year on our every four year band trip. That trip was the best trip that I have been on. I loved that trip so much that I took my family there two years later.
The best part about Chicago is the museums. My favorite one was the Museum of Science and Industry. you might think that it sounds boring but it's not. They have so much stuff in there, if you go visit this one make sure you take a whole day to visit it. They have so many different things in this museum from old tracktors to electric cars. They even have an olden town with a movie theatre. Chicks hatching to out of this universe technology, this place has it all.
The other museum that I went to was the Field museum. There you can see dinosaurs and ancient Americans. the famous Sue (a T rex), she is the worlds laregest and most complete rex in the world. they also have diamonds and other types of rare rocks out on display, thought there was only a few different kinds of rocks, think agian. If you love all of those things then the Field museum is for you.
Love animals? You'll love the Shed Aquarium. From the smallest of sea animals to the whales you get it all. Every day they have a dolphin show. These dolphins are amazing, they do all sorts of tricks. They have great interaction programs at this aquarium.
Navy Pier is one place that you must stop on this trip. This long stretch of fun artifacts and shops will make your day a little more fun. When you go, go on the boat tours, you can choose to go on a the slow one or on the fastest tour boat ever. I would recomend the fast one, it feels like you're flying you're going so fast.
If you haven't seen The Blue Man Group I would recomend it. Not only is it entertaining but it's super cool. The drumming is amazing and the paint is awesome. They take people from the audience and use them in the show and there is a suprise at the end.
The city is awesome and the atmosphere is magical. This is one of the best places in the U.S. (my opinion). If you like big cities and want to have a great time doing pretty much anything this is defenatly the place for you. If you can't find something to do there then you just don't know how to have fun and should probably get out more often.
